Richard K. Gates
Richard was born in Tucson Arizona. His genes include a rich artistic history, from his great grandfather, a central figure of the prairie school movement, to his artistic mother. Richard has inherited a true design sense. As an award winning Graphic Designer for most of his life, doing volumes of work for fortune 500 companies like Walt Disney. Richard has now taken the time to share his talents with the Fine Arts World.
Richard is an artist that thrives on productivity and sheer enthusiasm for his art. He is a master at reflecting his world in both realistic and contemporary forms. Painterly, yet technically precise, Richards virtuosity continues to blossom with each new body of work. The artist continues to integrate figures and animals into his work today, but insists they are not intended to be of central importance. Richard considers himself an abstract painter first, allowing the figurative elements of each work to evolve as a means of higher expression. Currently Richards works are more realistic than abstract, but that is just part of his pendulum approach to his art.
The paintings exude his sincere joy for life and for the beauty of the world around him. Finding infinite inspiration in the everyday world, Richard paints intimate scenes with grace and eloquence. He is able to convey the subtle splendor in scenes often overlooked by others.
Richard states, “It’s the duty of man to find beauty in the simplest of things.”
